Featured Charity - Sundance Solace Society

Updated: Dec 22, 2019

It's hard to believe we are already in the tail end of 2018! And as such, it's time for a new Featured Charity - and I want to head out of 2018 with an extra special Featured Charity! This quarter, my Featured Charity is Sundance Solace Society.

What does being a Paws & Tails Pet Photography Featured Charity mean? It means 10% of all sales from now until December 31 2018 will be donated to them! Also be sure to watch for more posts about them, how to lend them a helping paw and more over this final quarter of 2018!

This is a fantastic organization that offers free mental health services (including grief and loss groups, therapy for youth and adults and more) and has for the past 4 years, using horses to help people. Anyone who's ever worked with or been around horses knows first hand how truly and uniquely therapeutic horses can be. Sundance Solace Society is an extension of Shamrock Counselling, which was founded by Cristina Rennie as a way to provide free mental health services to the community for people who do not have the funds or resources to afford these services.

As some of you might also know, this great organization suffered a big loss in August when someone set fire to their barn that was built in 1968, which is where their counselling services office was located at and that held all of their counselling equipment and horse care items were lost in this fire. It was this great loss that inspired me to have them be the recipients for my fourth quarter Featured Charity. It is my hope that together, we can help give a helping paw up to a really great organization that helps our community in their time of need.

Want to know how you can lend this great group a helping paw ?

1. Volunteer! They are always looking for eager volunteers who are passionate about helping their community and love being outdoors. Part of their services utilizes horses and nature to create a unique space for the people who join their team as well as those who seek out their services. Please note that while they are always happy to teach volunteers about equine safety and care, volunteers are required to have an extensive background and knowledge of equine safety and care prior to volunteering if they wish to strictly assist with horse care. While they are always seeing knowledgeable horse care volunteers, and volunteers to assist with coordinating and running fundraisers, assist in running therapy groups and much more! Anyone is welcome to contact them to discuss what context they are looking to volunteer in and assess their suitability for the position.

2. DONATE! You can donate fiscally, directly to them via their website HERE! They do accept both individual donations as well as corporate sponsorships and donations. They are currently working to install a new riding ring that will allow them to provide more services year round and any donations that help in this process are greatly appreciated. They are also always seeking donations to assist in the care of their equine partners. Inquiries about dropping off specific donations like these, can be sent to them via their CONTACT US page. They do accept in person donations at the farm and are greatly appreciated, however, contact must be made with them prior to your arrival on the farm as it is an "Appointment Only" basis.

3. ATTEND! They have a fundraiser currently going on until NOVEMBER 10th and are asking our community to donate any clothing or small household items you would like to get rid of to help support their fundraiser! Your donations can be dropped off at other drop off locations as well that can be found HERE on their Facebook event page! You can also feel free to contact them via their website to inquire about more information.

Additionally be sure to mark your calendars for January as they will be having a Pub Night Fundraising event at the Fox and Hound Pub in Aldergrove! They are also seeking volunteers to help assist in the planning of this event and are also in need of silent auction items and raffle draw items.

4. Create Memories! From today until December 31 2018, 10% of all purchases of sessions, artwork, wall art, gift certificates here at Paws & Tails Pet Photography will be donated back to this great cause! So when you're looking for that puuurfect gift for the pet lover's on your list (yourself included) be sure to give them the priceless gift of memories and let them know they are helping out a great cause at the same time!
