6 ways to choose the best location for your session

Today I thought I'd share a few pointers on picking the best location for your pet photography session. Of course, many factors weigh in on choosing the perfect location, like your pet + their health and abilities, your health and skills, your home and decore, you and your pet's lifestyle, the season and weather, and, last but not least, your goals for the Session.

While these are all things we go over during your Meet + Treat Session and on your short questionnaire I send to you, I thought I'd share a few tips here with you today as well.

The first thing to consider in choosing the best location for your Session is your furkid. Is your furkid able to be off-leash? Do they have health issues that might prevent them from walking along some terrains? Is your pet a high-energy or low-energy furkid? Do they love to chase squirrels? Do they not like being close to strangers? Do noises bother them? Do skateboards make them crazy? These may seem like odd questions, but your furkid's health, safety, and general well-being are of top priority during any session with Paws & Tails Pet Photography. The main goal is to find a location that suits your furkid and where they feel safe and relaxed.

Bre loved playing soccer, so we photographed her where she loves to be the most - on the local ball field.

The second thing to consider is your health and abilities. While Fido might be great at hiking up wooded trails like a mountain goat, perhaps you are more comfortable walking on a lower grade or a less heavily wooded area. While Fido might be in tip-top shape, maybe your knees won't handle walking for that long or at that angle? When picking or considering a location, be sure to keep your health and abilities in mind and be honest with yourself. After all, Fido's health and safety are not the only priority during a session.

The third thing to consider is your home and decore. The goal for any session is to create some great artwork for your home, so be sure to consider the colors and decore you have in your home and try to envision how a piece may look in that spot. For example, if you have a bright red wall you want to hang your artwork on, maybe you wouldn't enjoy a beach sunset in pastels to hang on that wall. In the end, you want it all to be cohesive, so be sure to keep your home in mind.

The fourth thing to keep in mind is you and your furkid's lifestyle. While a great stroll along the beach at sunset sounds lovely to some, maybe you and Fido have more memories of strolling and playing in your favorite park or exploring the mountain trails nearby. Always be true to yourself and your furkid, and think about capturing moments and places that mean the most to you and your furkid.

Rufus and his mum love hiking and exploring so a beach session at San Josef Bay was perfect!

The fifth thing to consider when choosing a location for your Session is, of course, the season and the weather. If you want to do a particular beach strolling sunset session with bursts of color, those look best when shot in the summertime. However, if you love exploring the woods on a cool, overcast day, those are better done in fall with the burst of colors popping around you. Keeping weather and seasons in mind is a great way to ensure you get the images you have in your mind during your Session.

A sunset winter stroll in their favorite park was perfect for these two companions.

Last but certainly not least, the last thing you'll want to keep in mind when picking a location is your goals for the Session. What type of memories are you hoping to capture, and what memorable moments do you want to hang in your home? If you and Fido aren't beach lovers but go to a tiny local cafe every day for a coffee and a treat, maybe a more urban location will help create those special memories better than a stroll in the woods or on the beach.

These three amigos had a great time capturing special moments in the downtown core of Abbotsford!

I hope these tips and tricks help you and your furkid pick the very best location to capture some extraordinary memories together. If you're ready to have some special memories captured of you and your furkid here in the Triports and North Island area, be sure to give me a bark!
